Product details

The Pelham & White Nepera PWS430 is a 33-inch apron-front kitchen sink made from 16-gauge T-304 stainless steel. The manufacturer identifies this exact model as black stainless with its Black3 finish; AHL's title uses Gun Metal wording. Sound-deadening pads and an undercoating are documented features of the model.

This sink calls for an undercounter installation with a supported cabinet and a suitable solid-surface countertop. The exact PWS430 drawing shows 33 × 21 × 10 inches, while the manufacturer web page lists 22 inches front to back. Treat the drawing as a planning reference and check the actual sink and template before cabinet or countertop fabrication.

Buying guide

Start with the apron-front cabinet arrangement

An apron sink changes the cabinet front as well as the countertop opening. The PWS430 drawing specifies a 36-inch minimum cabinet, and the installation guide calls for a support frame secured to the cabinet sides. Compare the cabinet's construction, front opening and internal space with the actual sink. For a nominal 36-inch cabinet and 33-inch drawing width, the outside-width difference is 3 inches in total.

That arithmetic does not describe usable internal clearance: side panels, the frame and the apron arrangement still matter.

Compare the bowl with your largest everyday items

The technical drawing shows a 31-by-17-inch bowl interior and 10-inch overall depth. Measure a roasting pan, baking sheet or stockpot with handles, then compare how you will place and lift it inside the bowl. For a hypothetical 30-by-16-inch tray against the drawing's interior rectangle, the difference is one inch in each direction in total. Rounded corners, tray handles and the actual usable shape still determine whether it rests comfortably.

Also consider how much space remains for rinsing while that large item is present.

Check the countertop material and mounting method

The manufacturer's guide specifies undercounter installation using solid-surface composite or natural stone and excludes laminate. Identify the actual countertop material before choosing this sink for a replacement project. An existing opening for a different mounting style does not establish a ready fit. Ask the fabricator to review the apron relationship and support plan as part of the countertop work.

This comparison is particularly useful when choosing between a full cabinet-and-counter renovation and a sink-only replacement.

Plan faucet reach and the working area behind the bowl

The guide describes a countertop-mounted faucet and recommends fitting it to the counter before installing the sink. Compare the faucet's spout reach, handle movement and any pull-down hose route with the sink and rear counter area. Include backsplash space and access to the faucet connections on the plan. The faucet is a separate selection, so choose it around the actual mounting arrangement.

A matching dark appearance alone does not establish hole spacing, mounting thickness or comfortable water delivery into the bowl.

Coordinate the drain and under-sink space

The drawing labels a 3.5-inch drain opening. That dimension is a starting point for matching drain equipment, while the actual strainer, connector and any disposal require their own compatibility check. Sketch the drain route, trap, shutoffs and other equipment in the cabinet after allowing for the support frame. Check whether the existing plumbing can reach the actual connection without conflicting with shelves or stored items.

A drain opening size does not establish that every disposal or old connector will fit.

Compare the finish and accessory package together

The documented Black3 finish is a three-part finish over stainless steel; it needs the manufacturer's care routine. Compare an actual finish sample or unit with adjacent counters, faucet and cabinet hardware under the kitchen's lighting. The standard model documents list a finish-matched wire grid and strainer, but inspect AHL's package before planning around them. Note the grid's size, feet and drain access as well as the supplied drain pieces.

Sound pads and undercoating are model features, without a stated noise-reduction rating to use as a performance guarantee.

Installation & care

Verify the sink and template before the cut

The PWS430 installation guide says the template is for reference and the actual sink must be checked before cutting. Give the fabricator the matched model documents and note the manufacturer's 21-versus-22-inch front-to-back discrepancy. Confirm the apron opening, counter position and mounting arrangement with the physical sink. Keep fabrication measurements separate from the nominal product name; a 33-inch designation is not a countertop cutout instruction.

Build the cabinet support for the filled sink

Follow the guide's support-frame method, securing the frame to the cabinet sides so that it carries the sink and its contents when filled. Coordinate the frame with the drain route and cabinet access before setting the sink. The document does not provide a universal lumber size or load rating, so the installer must design the support for the actual cabinet.

Silicone at the countertop joint is part of the specified sealing arrangement, while the frame provides the documented support.

Set and seal in the recommended sequence

Pelham & White recommends professional installation and fitting the countertop faucet before the sink is installed. Use the guide's silicone adhesive/sealant at the sink-to-countertop interface and follow the chosen sealant's application and curing directions. Coordinate the plumbing connections with that sequence. Before regular use, have the installer check the completed joint and connections with water, and confirm that the cabinet support and apron remain correctly positioned.

Use a gentle cleaning and drying routine

Clean with a mild nonabrasive detergent and a sponge or soft cloth, then dry the surface after use. The manufacturer's guide excludes steel wool and recommends keeping the sink clean, dry and empty rather than leaving wet sponges in it. Make rinsing and drying part of the same cleanup sequence, including around corners and the drain.

Use the black-finish directions instead of assuming an abrasive cleaner suitable for another sink is suitable here.

Remove cookware and inspect beneath the grid

The guide advises removing cast-iron and steel cookware promptly. Avoid leaving those items or wet cleaning tools resting in the bowl between uses. If a grid is present, lift it out during cleanup so you can rinse and dry the surface beneath it, then inspect its contact feet and fit before replacing it.

A grid changes where dishes rest but does not remove the need to clean the bowl and check for trapped debris.

Product FAQs

Does the 36-inch cabinet minimum prove my cabinet will fit?

No. It is the model drawing's minimum cabinet reference. Check the actual cabinet construction, apron opening, support frame and physical sink together.

Is the sink 21 or 22 inches front to back?

The exact technical PDFs show 21 inches; the manufacturer product page says 22. Verify the actual sink and template before any fabrication.

Can it be mounted into a laminate counter?

The PWS430 guide excludes laminate and specifies undercounter installation with solid-surface composite or natural stone.

Is the faucet mounted on the sink?

The installation guide describes a countertop-mounted faucet and recommends installing it before setting the sink. Check the actual faucet and countertop mounting details.

Does the finish make it scratch-proof?

No scratch-proof guarantee is stated here. Use mild nonabrasive cleaning, avoid steel wool and follow the manufacturer's black-finish care instructions.

Can I reuse the old drain plumbing?

The drawing's 3.5-inch drain opening does not establish connector or disposal compatibility. Check the actual drain assembly and cabinet route with the installer.
