Product details

Cambridge Pearl is a light, matte porcelain tile in a nominal 11-by-22-inch rectangular format. Its longer face can create a directional layout or a stacked grid, depending on the way you arrange the pieces. Compare a physical tile with the grout and surrounding finishes to judge the pearl tone under the lighting in your room.

The manufacturer brochure identifies SF220093 as Cambridge Pearly and lists a working size of 11.14 by 22.28 inches. It describes 10 tiles per box with 17.24 square feet of coverage and an 8.5 mm thickness. AHL's thickness field differs slightly, so check the stocked carton and a sample when planning edging or adjacent floor height.

Buying guide

Estimate whole boxes

Measure the area to receive this tile and use the stated carton coverage to estimate the base number of boxes. Round up to complete cartons, then consider additional cuts, breakage allowance and repair spares. Keep your measured area and the allowance as separate figures. This is more useful than estimating from the nominal rectangular dimensions, which do not exactly describe the working tile size.

Plan the rectangular pattern

Mark the long direction on a sketch and compare how it would look from the room's main entrance. Locate narrow perimeter cuts before the installer fixes the starting line. A stacked grid and an offset arrangement need different cut planning at corners, doors and wall returns. Check the current tile instructions for permitted spacing and layout requirements; the catalog format alone does not establish a specific offset.

Coordinate the pearl tone

Look at the sample beside paint, cabinetry and neighboring tile. A pale color name can cover a range of undertones, and a matte surface may appear different under daylight and warm artificial light. Compare more than one grout sample beside the tile. A similar tone makes the joints less prominent, while a contrasting tone emphasizes the rectangle and helps you judge whether that effect suits the room.

Check edges and transitions

Identify any exposed tile perimeter and every place where the surface meets another material. A matching color is only part of a trim choice: check the profile and thickness against a physical tile and the planned setting bed. For a floor, include the finished height at doors and thresholds. Do not assume an edge product fits simply because it belongs to a porcelain-tile category.

Worked carton example: when six boxes are short

A 100-square-foot surface has a base requirement of six Cambridge boxes: six at 17.24 square feet supply 103.44 square feet. If a reviewed layout requires 108 square feet including its chosen cut and spare allowance, six boxes no longer meet that figure; seven supply 120.68. The eight-square-foot allowance in this example is a planning assumption, not a rule for every layout.

Record the actual room area and the reason for the allowance before rounding to boxes. Use the stocked package confirmation for the final calculation, and consider whether surplus whole tiles should be retained for repairs.

Worked layout check: nominal width adds up differently

For illustration, ten tile widths at the brochure's 11.14 inches total 111.4 inches before joints. Ten nominal 11-inch widths total 110 inches, a difference of 1.4 inches even before spacing and perimeter details are included. That difference can change the last cut at a cabinet or wall end.

It does not establish the dimensions of your installed row: use measured stock, the permitted joints and the actual starting line for that. A short dry layout with spacers selected under the applicable instructions is more useful than marking every cut from the rounded 11-by-22 title.

Worked sketch: rotate the rectangular grid

A nominal forty-four-inch square drawn with eleven-by-twenty-two rectangles contains two long dimensions across and four short dimensions high, or eight pieces. Rotating the paper grid reverses those counts and changes the visible joint directions while retaining eight nominal rectangles. Neither sketch establishes the final cuts: the documented working dimensions, required joints and perimeter details differ from that simplified title-size arithmetic.

Compare both arrangements with physical Cambridge pieces and the intended exposed edges before settling the direction. Use confirmed carton coverage for purchasing, and the checked working layout for the pieces that will actually be cut.

Installation & care

Confirm the available lot

Compare carton markings and inspect several pieces before setting. Review visible variation, damaged corners and the condition of the surfaces while pieces can still be rearranged or set aside. Keep some material for future repair if that matters to the project, rather than assuming another batch will have an identical appearance.

Separate tile from installation system

Choose the supporting surface, setting materials, joints and any water-management components for the intended location. Porcelain describes the tile; it does not independently approve every outdoor, submerged or shower-floor assembly. Resolve those application requirements before purchase and installation.

Keep a compatible care plan

Follow the instructions supplied for the tile and grout when selecting cleaning products. Test a proposed cleaner in a discreet area and consider the trim material too. Avoid treating a matte finish as proof of slip performance or as permission to use any cleaning method.

Product FAQs

Why is the working size different from 11 by 22?

The smaller whole-number format is a catalog designation. The brochure gives more precise tile dimensions. Confirm the physical material before creating a detailed cut plan or choosing edging.

Is Pearl a different product from Pearly?

The manufacturer uses Pearly for SF220093, while AHL uses Pearl. The matching SKU supports the identity; use the SKU when confirming the carton or asking about this tile.

Can the box coverage be used for an estimate?

Yes, it gives a useful base for whole-carton planning. The final amount still needs to account for your chosen layout, cuts and desired spare material.

Does matte porcelain mean it suits all wet floors?

No. Confirm the exact tile's application guidance and the complete installation requirements for the location you have in mind.
