Compare kitchen flooring for everyday activity
The kitchen floor has to work with cooking spills, chairs, foot traffic and adjoining rooms. Compare tile, vinyl and wood products by their approved application, surface texture and care requirements—not by appearance alone. Review how each floor will meet doorways and other finishes. Product-specific moisture guidance matters, particularly around sinks, dishwashers and exterior doors.
Give the backsplash a clear role
A kitchen backsplash can blend with the countertop or become the room’s main pattern. Subway tile offers a simple rhythm, mosaics bring smaller-scale detail, and textured or stone-look tile can add depth. Compare grout samples as part of the design. Plan exposed edges, inside corners, outlets and the range area before calculating material quantities, and confirm installation requirements for surfaces near heat.
Measure for appliances before choosing finishes
For a refrigerator, range or dishwasher, record the opening width, height and depth as well as nearby handles and doors. Check the exact model’s installation clearances, required connections and ventilation guidance. Think through the route from the delivery entrance to the kitchen. A listing photograph cannot confirm fit, included accessories or compatibility with the connections in your home.
Connect flooring, counters and cabinetry

Waterproof or water-resistant claims belong to the exact product and installation system, not every item in a material category.
Should my backsplash match the countertop?
It does not have to match. Look for compatible undertones and a balanced amount of pattern. Compare tile and grout samples directly against the countertop and cabinet finish before committing to a combination.
What measurements do I need for kitchen appliances?
Measure the available opening and delivery route, then compare the model’s full dimensions, door swing, required clearances and connections. Check installation instructions for ventilation and service access. Confirm which parts are included in the listing.
Can the same tile be used for the kitchen floor and backsplash?
