Product details
American Steel is the selected color of North American Adhesives NA5200 Color Fill Caulk S. The manufacturer identifies this formulation as a sanded siliconized acrylic caulk designed to coordinate with NAA grout colors. Compare American Steel beside a dried grout sample and the tile edge. A metal-like color name is not a statement that the caulk contains metal or will look identical to a metal trim.
Review the actual bead in the finish combination that will remain visible.
NA5200 is for interior applications, with joints no wider than 1/4 inch. It is not approved by its technical sheet for exterior projects, constant water immersion or joints subject to heavy abrasion. Check the gap, adjoining materials and intended exposure before choosing it by color. The manufacturer package reference is 10.5 U.S. ounces; confirm the supplied tube before estimating quantity.
Buying guide
Keep formulation and color together
Use NA5200-AMERICANSTEEL when confirming the AHL item and check NA5200 Color Fill Caulk S on the tube. Similar color names can occur in grout, silicone and other sealants with different installation limits. Write the exact formulation and selected color on the materials list, along with the joint location and planned bead size, so a replacement purchase follows the same specification.
Map the joints by location
Measure the length of each intended joint, keeping corners, perimeter edges and dissimilar-material junctions separate. Record width and depth as well as length. Some gaps may need a different sealant or a specified movement-joint design. Let the joint requirement determine the formulation first, then compare American Steel with the surrounding finishes.
Choose the bead with a sample
Make a small sample on representative materials and review it after curing. Compare the color, texture and bead width next to the actual grout. The manufacturer warns that matching the grout-color system can still produce a slight appearance difference because caulk and grout have different compositions. A sample is useful when a long visible junction will make that difference easy to see.
Worked tube quantity example
The technical sheet estimates 24 to 25 linear feet per 10.5-ounce tube for a 1/8-inch joint. For a hypothetical 30-foot requirement that matches the table assumptions, using 24 feet per tube gives 2 tubes, or 48 feet of estimated capacity. This rounds up to whole tubes and is not a guaranteed yield.
Joint depth, bead shape and application losses can change the result; confirm the tube size and the actual gap before completing the order.
Plan access and the finish sequence
Decide which adjoining finishes must be completed before caulking and how the joint can remain undisturbed during cure. Review whether paint will be applied after the bead and whether the nearby fixture can stay out of use during the water-protection period. Keep the caulking schedule distinct from grout cure and paint drying, since each material has its own timing.
Installation & care
Use a clean, dry compatible surface
The NA5200 sheet requires clean, dry surfaces and identifies contamination and unstable materials as concerns for adhesion. Verify the adjoining materials and remove the residue specified by the applicable preparation guidance. Do not use the caulk as a way to cover an unresolved loose surface or a joint whose design has not been reviewed.
Control the joint dimensions
The manufacturer limits joint width to 1/4 inch and calls for closed-cell backer rod where depth exceeds 1/4 inch. Review the actual section with the installer before selecting the bead or support material. The coverage table is a planning aid; a measured joint section is needed to judge whether the published estimate and product limits fit the project.
Follow the product application sequence
NA5200 is ready to use in a caulking gun. Have the preparation, masking and sample review complete before opening the cartridge. Use the current technical sheet for nozzle, filling, tooling and fresh cleanup guidance. Keep the finished bead continuous at the intended junction, rather than spreading the material as a thin coating over a broad surface.
Allow cure before paint and water
The technical sheet calls for 24 hours before painting and at least 72 hours of cure before water exposure. Larger beads and cool, humid conditions can require longer. Plan fixture use around the accepted cure schedule and follow the current tube instructions for the actual conditions. Surface skinning does not by itself establish that the joint is ready for water.
Keep the finished joint inspectable
Retain the tube identification and the accepted sample with the project information. When reviewing a later crack or separation, note its location, gap size and neighboring materials before choosing a repair. Determine whether preparation, movement or an incompatible joint condition needs attention; repeating the same color alone will not resolve the underlying cause.
Product FAQs
Is siliconized acrylic the same as 100% silicone?
NA5200 is a siliconized acrylic formulation. Do not substitute instructions or immersion permissions from a different silicone sealant. Choose the product by its documented formulation and limitations as well as its color.
Can I use it outdoors or under constant water?
The technical sheet excludes exterior projects and constant water immersion. Its mention of sinks, tubs and showers does not authorize submerged joints or every wet-area detail. Verify the exact joint design and exposure before choosing it.
Will the color match grout exactly?
The maker expects some variation between caulk and grout because their compositions differ. Compare a cured sample with the actual grout and tile under the room lighting before treating the matching color name as an exact visual match.
Can I use the coverage table for every bead?
Coverage is approximate and depends on joint size and application. Match the table to the measured gap and confirm the package size. Keep any allowance for application loss separate from the measured joint length.
