Product details
Alaskan Ice identifies the selected color of North American Adhesives NA4800 Ever Color MPG. This is a fine-aggregate, fast-setting multipurpose grout, with a manufacturer-published joint-width range of 1/16 to 3/4 inch. It is grout for joints, not a tile-setting adhesive; keep the tile, mortar and grout choices separate in the project list.
The AHL product reference names a 25-pound package. Confirm the supplied bag weight, color and production information before calculating the order. Grout coverage changes with tile size, thickness and joint width, so the floor’s area alone cannot establish how many bags are needed. Use the current NA4800 technical sheet and the actual tile measurements for the estimate.
Buying guide
Identify the grout separately from the color
Check both NA4800 and Alaskan Ice on the bag. A familiar color name can appear across different grout formulations, but that does not mean they share mixing instructions or installation limits. Keep the selected formulation on the materials list alongside the color, bag size and planned joint width.
If replacing a small area, compare a cured sample with the existing joints rather than assuming the same printed name guarantees an invisible repair.
Measure the joints that will be filled
Record tile length, width and thickness together with the joint width and the area to grout. Small tiles create more joint length in a given surface than large tiles, and wider or deeper joints require more material. Check the technical sheet coverage table for the matching combination.
An area figure from the tile order includes spare tiles and cuts; it should not automatically be used as the exact area of joints to grout.
Compare a cured color sample
Prepare a separate sample with the actual tile and accepted mixing and cleanup procedures. Compare it after drying under the planned room light. The final appearance depends on the adjacent face, joint width and installation conditions as well as the color name. Keep the approved sample with the project notes, particularly if several batches will be mixed across connected areas.
Worked coverage-table comparison
The NA4800 table gives approximately 518 square feet per 25-pound bag for 12-by 24-by 3/8-inch tile with 1/8-inch joints, and 259 square feet with 1/4-inch joints. For a hypothetical 300-square-foot installation matching those inputs, the narrow-joint estimate is one bag while the wider-joint estimate rounds to two. The example shows why joint width changes the order.
Coverage is approximate and actual tile size, depth and application can change it; confirm the 25-pound stock package and use the row matching your project.
Schedule a manageable work area
Plan mixing and cleanup as one continuous task. Decide how large an area the crew can grout, monitor and clean during the product’s working period. Keep the grout batch plan separate from the tile-setting schedule so the setting material has met its instructions before joints are filled.
Stage clean measuring tools and the approved cleanup supplies before opening bags; fast-setting material is easier to manage when the work sequence is ready.
Installation & care
Use the exact technical sheet
The manufacturer calls for cool, clean water and specifies measured ratios by bag weight; do not substitute a grout additive or mix from an approximate splash of water. Use the current sheet for the package size and site conditions. Consistent measuring and mixing are part of maintaining a consistent appearance across batches. Keep a batch record if the same field will be grouted in more than one session.
Check the tile face with a sample
The technical sheet calls for compatibility testing where pigmented or sanded grout could stain, scratch or dull glass, polished stone or other sensitive faces. Ask the tile supplier about the selected face and make a separate sample before applying grout to the finished installation. A light color does not eliminate the need to verify compatibility with the exact material.
Prepare the joints and preserve movement details
Confirm that the setting material is ready for grouting and that joints are clear of debris and standing water. The complete tile design must retain its required expansion and control joints; grout color coordination does not settle how those joints should be filled. Review the joint plan with the installer before treating every visible gap as a grout joint.
Follow the curing and protection schedule
Use the current technical sheet to set access and water-exposure timing for the project conditions. Temperature and humidity can alter working and curing periods. Keep the installation protected while it develops its intended performance, and avoid deciding readiness solely from the surface looking dry. Record the accepted cure schedule so other trades and occupants know when the area can be used.
Maintain the finished joints
The manufacturer’s maintenance guidance uses a compatible neutral-pH cleaner and calls for avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. Select the routine for both grout and tile, and check any stubborn-residue method with the appropriate supplier. Keep the grout identification and approved cleaner with the project information so a later cleaner change does not rely on the color name alone.
Product FAQs
Is it premixed?
NA4800 is a powder grout requiring the manufacturer’s measured water addition. Confirm the supplied bag and follow the technical sheet for its weight. Do not apply ready-to-use grout instructions to this formulation.
Can I use it in any joint width?
Its published range is 1/16 to 3/4 inch. The actual project also needs compatibility with the tile and installation design. Measure the gap and use the current NA4800 sheet before treating that range as approval for a particular surface.
Does grout make the installation waterproof?
Grout is part of the tile assembly; it does not replace a required waterproofing or drainage system. Choose the complete installation system for the intended location and keep water-management details separate from color selection.
Can it replace a highly chemical-resistant industrial grout?
The NA4800 technical sheet excludes situations requiring highly chemical-, impact- and stain-resistant grout and heavy industrial tile installations. Have the supplier identify the appropriate formulation for those project requirements.
